Monday Hit List

Our firstoffthebike.com Hit List goes global this week, from Madrid to Italy; Japan to Lanzarote.
- Travis Meyer - this guy has had a great career so far, one that got considerably better last week with an overall win in the Tour of Japan. The SouthAustralia.com squad is one of the hottest cycling incubators in the world.
- Bert Jammaer - Bert did two things this weekend. The first was winning Ironman Lanzarote, outside of Kona probably the toughest IM in the world. The second is he pantsed Ain Johannson in the process. Johansson is tough and fast and hard to beat. Well done Bert ... and yes, we made up the word pantsed!
- Team Astana - these are the guys banned from racing the Tour de France but have gone out hard in the last 2 weeks to look certain to win the Giro. Yeah, they're not in the lead yet, but they're queuing up to take a ticket for the pink jersey.
- Bella Comerford - Bella has enjoyed a great year to date with her second Ironman victory coming this weekend at Lanzarote. Before that Bella won in South Africa and had a fourth in New Zealand. A sensational season already and likely there's plenty more to come.
- Javier Gomez - I wrote last week that for me, Gomez may have lost his aura. Well, he must have gone to lost and found because watching him in Madrid last night was frightening. He made the run look effortless and seemed to even be able to switch back a gear five kilometres into the run.
Wrong Town of the week - we don't like to dis fellow Aussies, but Graeme Brown and Robbie McEwen will be very dirty with the two weeks they've had in Italy in the Giro d'Italia. Both are very quick and very experienced but have had two weeks of hunting without catching anything. Must be very frustrating for the two Aussie flyers. Look for Brownie to come good for Olympic duties and McEwen in the Tour de France.
