70.3 Boise. Ready, set...

Saturday, 31 May 2008 08:22

The 70.3 World Tour extravaganza hits Boise this weekend. This race is in its' first year and boasts a great field of over 1,200 age groupers and a raft of professionals all eager to get their name on the trophy first. The professional field, consisting of some of the sport's top contenders, will vie for the title and for the prize money as over $25,000 is on offer for the fast men and women on the day. Pros and age group athletes will also compete slots to the Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3, taking place on November 8, 2008, in Clearwater, FL. There are now a staggering thirty events in the Ironman 70.3 global series.

The men's event looks to be a race in two with Terenzo Bozzone and Chris Lieto the ones to watch. Lieto is a bike fiend and should be looking to build a lead over the fast finishing Bozzone. Lieto has won three Ironman races and is also a winner at the 70.3 distance so he knows how to win these. Bozzone holds the record for Wildflower so he too can go hard over this distance. Lieto looks to have the edge on the field and should set this up on the bike.

The women's field is boasting two of the best in the business in Kate Major and Desiree Ficker. Both have been on the podium in the biggest dance of the year in Kona and both are tough competitors. The 70.3 distance for them changes the dynamic and the race plan but expect both of these girls to have the speed factor turned up to 10! Major has a searing run leg and will torch the field and get her name onto the Boise 70.3 trophy.

Boise adds its' chapter to the 70.3 story this weekend. We will keep you across it, and the other 70.3 races when results come to hand.
