70.3 triple-header!

Thursday, 29 May 2008 10:37

If you ever thought the spread of 70.3 racing was all talk, this weekend's triple-header may just change your mind. Three, count them, three 70.3 races will be taking place in some very cool places across the globe this weekend. Hawaii is synonymous with endurance sports and this weekend the current world number one, Chris McCormack, is back where his legend was made, no doubt also using this weekend as an October tune up. Then the eyes of the 70.3 world turn to Switzerland and on to Boise where the fields are equally as strong.

Hawaii (USA) 70.3
Luke McKenzie and Chris McCormack (Macca) head the list of professionals heading to Hawaii this weekend. There is no finer triathlete racing on the planet right now than Chris McCormack, who might just be at height of his powers right now. Macca's unlikely to be beaten, though we should be in for a great race as McKenzie swims and bikes so well. Macca broke the course record last year at this event and should be able to repeat that feat this year. When Macca hangs up the bike, he'll no doubt be recognised as one of the finest triathletes of all time. The women's event sees this year's Wildflower champ Samantha McGlone from Canada at the top of the billing. This girl is a rock star and won't be beaten, though she may feel the pinch from Australia's Ali Fitch and the ever-speedy Kate Bevilaqua.

Switzerland 70.3
Switzerland 70.3 sees uber-biker Bjorn Andersson and Mathias Hecht going head to head. Andersson has probably the coolest bike position in the sport and he'll be looking to conduct a 'search and destroy' mission on the rest of the field. There's a whisper that Luke Bell is scheduled to race as well - we're checking up on that story and will be very interested to see if Luke can make a comeback here. He must surely be bursting to get back in to doing what he does best and that's racing hard.  After taking out California's 70.3 earlier this year, Hungary's Erika Csomor is a super racer and we should see her atop the podium this weekend.

Boise (Idaho, USA) 70.3
The Boise field eludes us right now but we're trying to get more info and will post as soon as we know more!!
