Kansas on my mind

For those who don't know, this week in Kansas will see the re emergence of a great young talent in the world of triathlon. Now we might be getting a bit premature in our predictions but we like to go out on a limb. This week's 70.3 caravan rolls into Kansas and an impressive pro field comes along with it. We have said it time and time again that the 70.3 race concept keeps throwing up top level athletes week after week. The great talent for the 70.3 athlete is to be able to back up to race again and again.
The men's race looks to be another cracker but as we mentioned in the opener of this article we think it is time that Leon Griffin showed his true racing style. The inside word on Leon's last 70.3 race was that it was flu affected meaning he raced below his best. With that out of the way Leon will be free to race hard. Now what are we basing our fearless prediction on? Well we saw Leon a few times last season in Australia and he was an animal! There are however a few guys to stand in his way. The first being Craig Alexander. Crowie is a 70.3 genius so of course he is race favourite. Torrenzo Bozzone and Ritchie Cunningham are also super slick and with the addition of Simon Lessing it is going to be one fun race to watch unfold.
The women's event looks also to have attracted a top level field. The two stand outs are Sam McGlone and Joanna Lawn. McGlone is a rockstar when it comes to this sport and Lawn is not too far behind her after her heroics in Taupo. But at this distance it is hard to see anyone getting the better of McGlone. Throw in Pip Taylor to round out the podium and it looks like an interesting course with the bike component nicknamed 'The Iron Cross' by the locals.
