The first of the "Big Two" races is going to be raced this weekend. Wildflower is one of the world's premier triathlons boasting a field that would be at home in Kona round October. This event is a festival of triathlon and is the kick off to a busy North American season. For years the world's best professionals have been flocking to this great venue. Without a doubt Chris Legh and Chris McCormack will be the headline acts here. While Sam McGlone looks to be the one to beat in the women's event.
This race is always a good form finder for those athletes who are coming out of their off season and for those coming out of a Southern Hemisphere Summer. Last season saw Bjorn Andersson smashing the all star field to win over Chris Legh and Ben Hoffman. The women's event saw Becky Lavelle triumph over the speedy Aussies in Mirinda Carfrae and Kate Major.
This year sees the return of the defending champion in Andersson. But there is a gaggle of world class pros who will be trying to get their name on the honour roll. Just check out some of these names. Terrenzo Bozzone, Steve Larsen, Chris Lieto, Eneko Llanos, Leon Griffin and Luke McKenzie. The women's race features Tereza Macel, Pip Taylor and Leanda Cave. But now we have to stop dropping names and throw our hat into the ring for firstoffthebike.com's fearless predictions. Two Aussie hotshots to keep an eye on will be Joe Gambles and Leon Griffin. This is Griffin's first real crack at the US season after a dominant Australian stint. he is a changed man is Leon and will be out to prove some knockers wrong.
